NEW ENERGY MATERIALS INSTITUTE
In order to meet the rapid development of new energy materials, the New Energy Materials Institute was founded in the School of Materials Science and Engineering. There are 9 faculty members in the institute, including 3 professors, 5 associate professors, and 1 lecturer. Besides, we have one external academician. One member was evolved in the Thousand Talents Program of Tianjin. Two members were conferred the title of "Beiyang Young Scholar" and three members were awarded the title of "Beiyang Young Leading Teacher". Two were enrolled the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education. One was awarded Tianjin Youth Technology Award. One was awarded Renowned Teacher of Tianjin University. One was awarded the title of Young Talents of Science and Technology of Tianjin.
The institute mainly focuses on the studies of novel energy materials and devices, solving the increasingly serious problems of pollution and energy. Our research area includes solar-energy- conversion related materials and devices, energy-storage materials and devices, cost-effective and efficient catalysts, and materials for environmental testing and protection.
The research are financially supported by more than ten foundations, including 973, 863, and National Science Foundation of China. We have published more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, including Nature, Science, JACS, Angew Chem Int Ed, Nature Communications, Adv Mater, etc. The research results was highlighted on the website of Nature, selected as hot articles by Royal Society of Britain and Angew Chem, and selected as Cover Paper by Adv Mater. In 2016, one Ph. D. candidate in our institute, as joint first authors, published one paper in Science. We were awarded the first prize in Tianjin Natural Science Award in 2015.
We devote much attention to the international exchanges and corporate with many leading research groups in the world, such as Shi-Zhang Qiao's group in University of Adelaide in Australia, Ted Sargent's group in University of Toronto in Canada, Hai-Mei Zheng's group in UC Berkeley in US, Kulinichi Sergei's group in Tunghai University in Japan, Huo-Lin Xin's group in Brookhaven National Lab, etc. We have established long-term corporative relationship with these research groups.
Our faculty members are in charge of National Excellent Course "Modern Research Methods in Materials Science", and written the National Excellent Textbook "Materials Analysis Methods". The Institute is in charge of the education of undergraduate students in Functional Materials, based on the education mode of Project. The first batch of graduates were recruited by University of Queensland, Qinghua University, Hongkong University of Science and Technology, Huawei, Jingdongfang Ltd. etc. We recruit a number of Ph.D. and graduate students every year and the students used to awarded Excellent Ph.D. Dissertation and Excellent Graduate Student Dissertation of Tianjin.
